Meet Seus: Shy, but worth the wait for a tail wag.

Imagine waking up to soft thump-thump-thump under the blankets. You look down. There he is—Seus—curled like a cinnamon roll, huge expressive eyes blinking up at you like you’re the whole universe. He doesn’t jump. He waits. Then that tail wag. The one just for you. This is what trust feels like.

Seus is a whip-smart, long-haired Chi mix with a silky coat and a heart that had to learn to love again. When he arrived, elevators full of strangers terrified him. Sudden moves? Hands reaching? Hard no.
But in three weeks? He went from hiding to taking chicken from new hands and sniffing their shoes. In two weeks? He learned sit, stay, tug-of-war, and full potty training. He even rollerblades alongside his foster parent. Seriously.

🥰Loves: morning cuddles, fetch, climbing, sniff walks, being glued to you. Food? Beef sausage (jackpot), hot dog, cheese, boiled chicken, salmon. Also white noise machines, chewing, chilling, and rollerblading.

😦Dislikes: unpredictable strangers, being touched without warning, sudden movements, fast entries. But once he trusts you? He’s your fuzzy bodyguard for life.

Seus is fully house-trained, crate-trained, condo-perfect. He’s both food AND play motivated—training feels like a game. He’s looking for an active, patient human who’ll let him warm up first.
Because the shy ones? They love the hardest.

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Angel who is now known as Dumpling.

"He's doing amazing! He's really settled into our family and it's hard to imagine life without him. He's such a delightful funny little guy, and seeing him play with our older dog is so cute. Dumpling has gained some weight, learned a few new things, and tolerates hygiene tasks with a LOT of bravery. He loves to zoom in the livingroom with his brother, Noodle. But he also happily rolls around on the couch alone.
Dumpling enjoys sunbathing and belly rubs, sitting on laps, and having his ears pulled. Dinner is his favourite time of the day. Although he is a snack fiend, he's really polite about not begging for human food tooo aggressively (and he never steals). He loves fish skin rolls and chicken jerky.
Since getting comfortable in our home, he has learned "sit", "come", and how to wear boots. He's really good about getting his teeth brushed too, especially because he loves eating toothpaste. He has amassed a large collection of DIY sweaters...although he has grown out of a few.
There have been challenges. At first he was really bad about eating street snacks but he has kicked this habit with the help of us carrying kibble to divert and reward him. He is also not a fan of the cold weather. He is used to wearing a coat & boots now and tolerates the outdoors for potty purposes. The biggest challenge now is he barks when surprised by strange dogs. We manage to divert his attention and give him treats whenever he makes eye contact with us. He is definitely improving and we are committed to keeping up reinforcement."

Meet Stevie – the Shih Tzu you sure don't want to miss! 🐶

At 8 months old, this little love bug is paws-itively perfect for cuddling. He lives up to his breed name: he's shih-tzu-ly devoted to his people. Stevie will stick by your side like Velcro in fur, ready for cozy nights in and tail-wagging welcomes when you walk through the door.

He's 95% house-trained (overnight "oopsie daisies" happen – he's still a puppy, no need to throw a tzu-per fit!). A few puppy classes would help him cross that finish line.

Stevie gets along fur-mously with other pets – he's living peacefully with a dog, a cat, and even a toddler. He lets others take the lead during playtime, and he's great at reading the room (puppy EQ off the charts!). He's got a medium energy vibe: most of the day he's a professional lounger, but he loves a good zoomie session in the backyard with your little one, followed by a serious sniff-and-explore mission.

In short: Stevie is love wrapped in fur, with a side of puns and a wagging tail. Come meet him – we promise he'll shiht-zu right into your heart. 🐾

It's Fido Friday and today we are getting an update on Hunter who is now Reggie.

"Reggie has brought so much joy and life into our home. In early days, he moved quietly around the house, seemingly trying to stay out of the way and spending a lot of time curled in his crate or tucked under the couch with moments of closeness and curiosity. With time, patience, and support from a trauma-informed trainer we were able to build trust with him and draw him out of his shell (and hiding places) we watched his "old man" energy transform into a playful puppy. Now he spends his days lounging on the couch, watching the neighbourhood through the front window and fetching us his toys for playtime. And he found his voice! I have countless videos of him talking to me! He's quite hilarious.
We're still working on a couple quirks: It's difficult getting him on a leash, but when we do he's a great walker. He's a home body but has become a jetsetter. I've taken him on several trips for work and leisure. He's a pro on the plane, but hates being in the car.
Training Reggie has been interesting because he's very smart and picks things up quickly, yet he's not a dog who is overly motivated to please us (haha) but he's highly motivated by treats.
He is still very fearful of other dogs when encountered on walks. When he's been intentionally introduced to other dogs, his fear can shift from cautious to curious, and after enough time, he will play - and play Hard! It's really fun to watch.
Adopting Reggie has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. He's my little buddy and I can't imagine life without him.

Vilma is a 1-year-old Chihuahua mix from Mexico who lives by one simple rule: run first, cuddle later.

Every backyard trip = instant zoomies. She wants you to WATCH. She wants you to BE IMPRESSED. (We are.)

She'll fetch a ball until your arm falls off. If you give up, she'll play by herself like a tiny furry tornado. Then – BAM – she crashes. Curls up. Requests snuggles. Passes out.

Other impressive feats:
✔️ Knows "sit" (show-off)
✔️ Learning "stay" (mostly stays)
✔️ Sleeps in her crate all night without a single peep (HOW? We don't know. Witchcraft?)

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Tuffy.

"He is working deeper and deeper into our hearts. He loves his walks, riding in the car, and entertaining us. We have a large enclosed porch with lots of windows and a full sized couch. he has claimed it for himself and loves being out there, even when it is colder. We put a little fireplace out there to make it more comfortable for him.
When we got Tuffy, he wouldn't even come into our bedroom. He would just go to the door and lay down. One day I coaxed him to come into our room and he almost crawled to me. He didn't stay long but slowly we convinced him that he was welcome to come into our bedroom. Finally after a few weeks, he jumped up on the bed! We are good with him there and give him lots of loving and scratches on the belly. Now I just say to him 'let's go find mom' and he runs in, jumps up and goes to her to get his loving.
We feel that we have rescued him and know for sure that he has rescued us as well. after we had to put our little Trax down from cancer, we were very down and missed him terribly. Our daughter told us to go rescue a dog and we found Tuffy on your website. we were concerned we would not be approved at our age. It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Tuffy.

"He is working deeper and deeper into our hearts. He loves his walks, riding in the car, and entertaining us. We have a large enclosed porch with lots of windows and a full sized couch. he has claimed it for himself and loves being out there, even when it is colder. We put a little fireplace out there to make it more comfortable for him.
When we got Tuffy, he wouldn't even come into our bedroom. He would just go to the door and lay down. One day I coaxed him to come into our room and he almost crawled to me. He didn't stay long but slowly we convinced him that he was welcome to come into our bedroom. Finally after a few weeks, he jumped up on the bed! We are good with him there and give him lots of loving and scratches on the belly. Now I just say to him 'let's go find mom' and he runs in, jumps up and goes to her to get his loving.
We feel that we have rescued him and know for sure that he has rescued us as well. after we had to put our little Trax down from cancer, we were very down and missed him terribly. Our daughter told us to go rescue a dog and we found Tuffy on your website. we were concerned we would not be approved at our age.
