It is Fido Friday! This week we are getting an update on Andre who is now known as Buddy. Andre was a part of a difficult intake of poodles who were surrender and is very special to many of us at Fur-Ever Homes Rescue.

"I'm actually a Foster Fail. My sweet Audrey died in January while I was in Costa Rica. I had an email from a friend who said Fur-Ever Homes rescue had brought in a number of Chinese Crested dogs and that is what Audrey was and I so adored her.
I phoned in and gave my information. The next day I had a 10 year old poodle with health issues. He is an absolute sweetheard. His name is Buddy and he loves to walk. I'm getting about 7500 Buddy steps in a day. My daughter-in-law calls him a velcro dog since he's usually about a foot away from whereever I go. If I put him on anyone's lap he will stay. Always watching everything going on. He is very timid but is becoming more of a dog which is great. He is no non-aggressive that other dogs must sense he is gentle as he never barks and them and they all leave him be.
I could not imaging not keeping him!"

During this time (late winter through early spring), you may hear more howling and yipping as pairs communicate and establish territories. Coyotes also become more active and territorial, sometimes venturing out in daylight.

This makes proactive safety for our pets essential. Please follow these steps to protect your furry family members and promote peaceful coexistence:

➡ Always keep dogs leashed on walks, especially at dawn, dusk, and night.

➡ Supervise pets closely in yards, and keep cats indoors.

➡ Never leave pet food or water outside.

➡ Secure garbage cans and remove fallen fruit or birdseed that attracts wildlife.

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Lucy who was adopted into a loving home in 2025.

"Lucy has been a wonderful addition to my family. I have spent the last 3 months helping her build her confidence and trust. It has been so rewarding to see her goofy and loveable personality emerge. She absolutely loves going for walks, where she can meet up with her walking buddies in the neighborhood. We just got back from a 10 day trip to the family farm in Saskatchewan. She loved everything about the farm life, except for the horses - those things were scary!! She is mischievous and likes to steal and hoard whatever she can get her paws on. She is especially fond of stealing unattended socks and slippers. She is starting to come out of her shell to initiate cuddling and pets. I plan to enroll her in the humane society's fearful fido class to help build on our successes.
My experience with Fur-Ever Homes rescue has been amazing. The adoption process was straightforward and I knew that supports were available if needed. Lucy's bio on the website was helpful. I knew that she was fearful, so didn't have an unrealistic expectations. I am planning to adopt a friend for Lucy next year and will definitely use this organization again."

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Teddy, also known as Ted, Little T, Mr T.... 🥰

"We kept his name as it suits him perfectly. He was a bit nervous on his first drive home but then settled in right away. His foster family did a wonderful job with him! He was very friendly and so good from the start.

Teddy is our first small dog so we were a bit nervous with some leash walking. To help us feel more comfortable, we reached out to Fur-Ever Homes and we were put in tough with Happydogz. She came to our house and taught us some great tips - she's a great resource.

Teddy is the friendliest, happiiest, most easy going dog. He loves to go for walks, play with his toys, run around in the yard and snuggle with his people anywhere. He enjoyed camping and swimming this summer and makes friends whereever he goes. He is a great presence in our home and we (him included) couldn't be happier!

Our experience with Fur-Ever Homes was very positive. From the meet and greet event to the application and approval process, everything was very thorough and we appreciate the effort Furever homes takes to ensure pets get to the right homes. Teddy's foster family were so good to Teddy. He came well adjusted, afraid of nothing, and a pro at everything he does.

Welcome to the first Fido Friday of 2026! We are getting an update on a special dog named Felix.

"Felix is a little sweetheart and we kept his name. I am his main caregiver and didn't have any real problems with him.
Poor Felix must have had a difficult life prior to coming to Canada. When Felix first came to live with us he would jump whenever I touched him. It must have been scary for him since he is blind and as we discovered, also deaf.
He is finally comfortable with me petting him and picking him up which I do four or five times a day to put him outside. He sleeps by my bed and likes to have my fuzzy slippers by his side. When ever I sit, Felix finds a cozy place near me. We are taking our time working on sitting on my lap. We are slowly making progress. He knows where his bowls and bed are. He is funny, sometimes he puts both front paws in his water bowl in order to reach his food.
We thought about his adoption for quite a few days, debating whether we should go through with it. I have no regrets at all. He is loved and well taken care of."

It was a year that saw over 200 once-homeless dogs and cats experience the life-changing click of a forever home’s door—a sound replaced by the comforting thump of a tail or the gentle rumble of a purr.

This year asked much of our hearts. We remember the trembling poodles from Saskatchewan, who arrived carrying the weight of a difficult past, and the local dogs who simply needed a chance to be seen. We celebrated each victory—every wound healed, every fear soothed, every soul learning to trust again in the care of our devoted fosters and veterinarians. While we mourn the precious few we couldn’t save, we hold their memory close, a quiet reminder of why our mission is so vital.

None of this light would be possible without the incredible constellation of people who make up our community. To the fosters who offered spare rooms and overflowing hearts, to the volunteers who gave countless hours, to the donors whose generosity provided critical care, and to every supporter who cheered us on—you are the true heroes of these 200+ happy endings.

Our rescue van has officially broken down, and with winter here, we’re in a tough spot. This vehicle is how we transport supplies, take dogs to vet appointments, pick up new intakes, and keep our rescue running safely and smoothly. Without it, our operations slow to a crawl.

We urgently need to raise $6,000 to purchase a reliable second-hand van right after Christmas. Every dollar helps get us back on the road so we can continue saving the dogs who depend on us.

Welcome to Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Dolly who is now known as Daisy Mae.

"She is slowly settling in. She still has a lot of fear and anxiety so we are working with a behavioral vet and trying medication to helo her feel less anxious. In addition, we will be starting with a trainer in the next couple of weeks. We delayed the trainer on the advice of our vet.

"She is slowly settling in. She still has a lot of fear and anxiety so we are working with a behavioral vet and trying medication to helo her feel less anxious. In addition, we will be starting with a trainer in the next couple of weeks. We delayed the trainer on the advice of our vet.

It's Fido Friday! Today we are getting an update on Trixie who is now known as Gracie.

"This little girl is now Gracie and we love her to bits! She bonded to me quickly and is slowly getting used to my husband. He's not as big and scary when he's sitting down. As long as he doesn't make any sudden movements!
She loves having her babies around her and naps with her head on one of them. She sleeps through the night no problem, but needs to go for a piddle every 3-4 hrs during the day or we may have a puddle. She doesn't ask to go out yet. She gets a little excited, so figuring out if she wants to play excited or if she has to go out will be key.
She has the Corgi superpower of shedding so she gets a good brushing every day. We haven't had a shedding dog before, but love her and are willing to live with it.
She's amazing in the car. We recently had a drive to Manitoba. I purchased a booster seat for her as she likes to look out the window.
We are very pleased to have Gracie as part of our family. Thank you for bringing her to Calgary."
